NFL Draft Rumors: Updates on Teams Considering Trading Up for Trent Richardson

Wes ODonnellJun 3, 2018

Trent Richardson plays the one position that teams typically try to avoid in the first round, but he's no ordinary prospect.

Richardson isn't just a running back, he's not even just an all-purpose back, he's a dynamic offensive weapon who can instantly make a difference between battling for last in the division or competing for a postseason berth.

Plain and simple, he's the best running back prospect to enter the league since Adrian Peterson in 2007.

That type of comparison certainly catches the attention of a number of teams and they aren't trying to get out of Richardson's way, they're trying to get directly in his way.

Here's the latest on the teams trying to get in on the Trent Richardson sweepstakes.

Cleveland Browns

Sitting at No. 4, the Browns are the one team who may not have to do anything to land the Crimson Tide star.

They have a huge hole at running back, but have an even bigger need for an offensive playmaker. Fortunately for them, Richardson can be both.

The Browns would love to see the Vikings sit tight at No. 3, but Minnesota is causing them a lot of trouble with teams like...

There are plenty of reports noting the Bucs' interest in the running back and they've been in contact with the Vikes about possibly moving.

Of all the deals on the board, no team makes more sense than Tampa Bay because both clubs, the Bucs and the Vikes, will land players they desperately want and need.

The Vikes are listening to, and possibly even feigning interest in, other teams in an effort to get Tampa to move up.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports that the Jets called Richardson this weekend to confirm his contact information in case they were able to move up for him. Cimini says that ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports Richardson is the top player on Gang Green's board.

But this morning Sal Pal told SportsCenter that a trade is highly unlikely. In fact, he said there is a "0.0 percent chance" the Jets pay the necessary price (via Pro Football Talk). The cost to move up to No. 4 is ridiculously steep as neither the Vikes nor Browns want to fall all the way down to No. 16.

It is hard to ever discount Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan, but Richardson seems completely out of reach barring a shocking development.
