Hopkins vs. Dawson Predictions: Cagey Vet Has Enough to Pull off Epic Upset
We will finally get to see the grudge match for a fight that largely never happened, and it's one that Bernard Hopkins can assuredly win.
The last time Hopkins and Chad Dawson met, the elder statesman was being thrown to the ground, leaving the fight to be later labeled a no-contest.
The 47-year old will have another shot at Dawson, and will bring into the ring his wide assortment of tricks he has accumulated over the years.
Dawson, the 29-year old from South Carolina, will have the benefit of speed and footwork, but he will hardly have patience on his side.
Hopkins is no longer able to mix it up with boxers in the form of pure speed and endurance, leaving those weapons years ago.
He is still in great shape and could very well go on fighting for years after this bout. I am done questioning when Hopkins will hang them up, because the answer is closer to never than it is to shortly.
What Hopkins does do is get boxers, namely Dawson, out of their comfort zones. The young favorite is at his best when he is inducing action with his footwork and moving around the ring.
The problem is that Hopkins, who lost his agility years ago, can still lull you to sleep with experience and a frustrating display of resolve.
Hopkins will measure the attack with great defense and push this fight well past the early rounds. It's at that moment that he may very well begin to chop down Dawson who could become far too stationary for his own good.
Dawson has youth and speed, but Hopkins has immense experience, making this weekend the perfect chance for an epic upset.
