NFL Draft Order 2012: Players Who Will Cause Teams to Trade Up

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

All 3,492,781 mocks drafts completed in the past month will more than likely be derailed by draft-day trades.

We know the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars are the two biggest threats to trade down right now, but which players are going to draw enough attention to help them achieve their goal?

Ryan Tannehill is an interesting prospect, but it would be surprising if anyone was flying up in front of the Miami Dolphins at No. 8 to get a clear shot at him.

There are a few players who could force a team's hand come draft night, though, and here they are...

Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

The only elite running back in this entire draft class, Richardson is a lock to go in the top five. Both Cleveland and Tampa Bay are heavily interested in the Crimson Tide running back, and there are a few other teams (New York Jets primarily) who are crazy enough to try and trade up for him.

But the most likely trade scenario involving Richardson is a trade between two teams separated by only one other team.

If the Bucs and new coach Greg Schiano are hellbent on landing the star tailback, trading up with Minnesota is easily the smartest move for both teams.

The Vikes wouldn't drop too far and could still get a shot at either OT Matt Kalil or CB Morris Claiborne—the deal makes too much sense to not happen if the Bucs decide they need Richardson.

Mark Barron, S, Alabama

There is no player linked to more teams right now than Barron. He has admirers from No. 8 down to No. 18 and then some.

The Cowboys and the Eagles have been the most heavily rumored teams for his services, but the Bills have also surfaced in these late hours.

Barron is an instant starter in the NFL and the only elite safety in the entire draft.

It wouldn't be surprising at all to see a team fly up the board for his services.

Michael Brockers, DL, LSU

The redshirt sophomore lineman is also gathering steam in these late hours. He has unique upside and is just scratching the surface of his playing potential.

Depending on what happens with the likes of Fletcher Cox and Mark Barron, Brockers could see one team jump a few rivals to ensure he lands on their roster.

He's a guy who could sneak into the early part of the draft.

Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State

Unlike the aforementioned names, Weeden is a guy who will catch fire in the latter portion of Day 1 or the early portion of Day 2.

Last year the Bengals were lucky enough to land Andy Dalton in the second round, but a team like Cleveland may not want to roll the dice on that.

Don't surprised if someone creeps back into the first round (we know the Patriots love to trade out) for the star QB.
