WWE Extreme Rules 2012: Brock Lesnar Is Ideal Villain for John Cena

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

Forget what you think about Brock Lesnar as a person.

In WWE, the man who was known as "The Pain" is the perfect counterpoint to John Cena. Extreme Rules is likely going to set in motion a chain of events that were hinted at on Raw this week, and it's perfect for both superstars.

At the same time, there's no reason for Cena to walk away with a victory in this matchup. WWE appears to be setting up a losing streak angle that will break his spirits completely, which could do wonders for the character.

Regardless of what WWE is thinking with Cena, Lesnar has to be the one to walk away with a victory on Sunday night.

All you have to do is see the differences in their characters to realize that Lesnar is capable of doing more great things with a victory.

Look at what Cena brings to the table: He's the face of WWE right now. He's someone who's going to say whatever he has to in order to get the fans on his side. It never works because Cena often comes off as phony, but that's the role he's being asked to play.

Lesnar, on the flip side, genuinely doesn't care what you think of him.

He said that in his interview segment on Raw when the show was in England and that was not just an act. When Lesner said that he came back to WWE for the money because Vince McMahon needed him, that was as real as it gets.

Just looking at the dichotomy between these two superstars, you often wonder why more stories aren't created this way. Sure, it's not like anyone can just come in with the kind of presence that Lesnar has, but the general idea remains the same.

Cena loves WWE to his core.

This company has given him everything he has, and Cena has earned everything WWE has given him. He's the biggest star in the business today. He gives everything he has all the time, regardless of whether we think he's a good wrestler or not.

Lesnar could care less about what happens to WWE. As long as he gets paid his money, he wouldn't care if WWE didn't see another day.

Even in storyline, WWE wants you to know that Lesnar is trying to be bigger than the show because he doesn't care about the rich history of Raw or anything Vince McMahon has created.

Lesnar is an ass kicker. Period.

While the crowd is not going to flock to Cena because of his deep love for WWE, Lesnar's personality is the perfect foil for him.

It takes a lot in wrestling today to create a truly evil character that's so easy to hate, yet fascinating to watch because of his demeanor. Lesnar has broken the mold by being someone who doesn't care about the business, but utterly captivating when he's on screen.

Cena needed a foil like this after going through the build and subsequent match with The Rock at WrestleMania 28.
