Todd McShay 2012 NFL Mock Draft: Biggest Reaches by ESPN's Guru

Everybody makes mistakes every once in a while. That couldn't be more appropriate during the NFL draft process, when experts try to peg down who will be the next future stars in the pros.

No matter how good of an evaluator you are, you will have your fair share of fumbles every draft. If draft experts got everything right, that would mean they could predict the future, and no one can do that (except me, of course).

Here are the biggest blunders by Todd McShay of ESPN, in my humble opinion.

Baltimore Ravens, No 29: Harrison Smith, S, Notre Dame

Harrison Smith may be the second-best safety in the class, but he's not a first-round prospect in my opinion. He has great size, length, strength and awareness, but showed he could be exposed against speed and quickness in college, and it's only going to get quicker in the NFL. 

San Francisco 49ers, No. 30: Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut

Kendall Reyes is a fringe first-rounder in my mind, but I have more of an issue with planting him with the 49ers. The 49ers will grab a receiver, guard or cornerback before they select a defensive tackle. I have them selecting Midwestern State guard Amini Silatolu.

New York Jets, No. 16: Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse

Chandler Jones may be a first-round prospect, but by no means should he go as high as No. 16 overall. He has solid size and great length, as well as a good motor and competitiveness, but he lacks in burst, strength and explosiveness. He would fit a need for the Jets, but I'd take Courtney Upshaw, Whitney Mercilus and Nick Perry over Jones.
