Jose Bautista Leads Toronto Blue Jays to Sweep of Kansas City Royals

Bill FordApr 24, 2012

Toronto Blue Jays right-fielder Jose Bautista led the Jays to sweep the Kansas City Royals with a powerful bat that has awakened.

Bautista smashed his third home run of the season, giving the Jays a 3-1 lead and eventual 4-1 win over the Royals, finishing a four-game sweep.

Bautista had been fairly quiet with the bat so far this season, hitting .212 going into Monday's game. His two-run home run off of Bruce Chen's first pitch landed in the Royals bullpen out in left fiend.

Concerns had begun to rise about Bautista's lack of production since the start of the season, but Monday's game likely boosted his confidence and should keep the momentum going.

He'll need to be more consistent at the plate, but that shouldn't be an issue for Bautista. He may have started out slowly this season, but fans can expect him to bounce back and be quite productive for the rest of the season.

In 16 games that he has played so far, he has 12 hits, two doubles, three home runs and nine RBI with a .214 batting average. Although his batting average appears to be low for now, that will pick up as the season moves along.

Confidence-building games are crucial to a player's performance, and even though Monday was only one game, he proved to himself that he is capable of bouncing back and being productive.

The season is young. Bautista will shine.
