WWE News: New Tag Team to Debut on NXT This Week?

Drake OzApr 23, 2012

Might we be seeing the rejuvenation of tag team wrestling in the WWE?

I have no idea, but there are at least some slight indications that the creative team is going to make tag teams a bit more of a priority in the near future.

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen the Usos in action twice (when’s the last time that happened?), a tag team angle between Tyson Kidd and Heath Slater, and the duo of Titus O’Neil and Darren Young promoted to Smackdown.

With Young and O’Neil looking to help improve the tag team scene on both Raw and Smackdown now, we may see another new tag team on NXT.

From WrestleNewz.com:

"

With Titus O’Neil and Darren Young being moved from NXT to SmackDown, there are rumblings that a new tag team from FCW may make their debut on this week’s NXT.

"

I’ve seen a similar report to this one on several wrestling news sites, but given the lack of an established source, I’m not sure exactly how reliable these reports are.

If this is indeed true, however, I like it.

Tag team wrestling definitely has a place in the WWE, and since it doesn’t look like we’re ever going to get a new “season” of NXT, the WWE made as well continue to use that show as a platform for new talent, including new tag teams.

We don’t need the silly contests, obstacle courses and the crap like that we used to get on NXT.

Since the show isn’t on TV here in the US, it should be used to help FCW stars get used to working in front of bigger crowds and familiarize them with the WWE fans that still watch the show. Then, when they’re ready, bring them to Raw or SmackDown like they did with O’Neil and Young.

There are a ton of talented guys down in FCW who could improve the WWE’s tag team division, but a start on NXT might prevent them from failing miserably on Raw or the Blue Brand.

Keep your eyes peeled and be on the lookout for a possible main roster call-up for a current FCW tag team.

Oh yeah, and for the revival of tag team wrestling, too.
