Barcelona vs. Chelsea: Barca Needs to Redeem Itself After Loss to Real Madrid

Rob GoldbergApr 23, 2012

After losing to bitter rival Real Madrid this weekend, Barcelona cannot afford another loss to Chelsea on Tuesday.

Based on the club's history of success, Barcelona and its fans hold the team to a very high standard.

So far, this season has been unacceptable.

The squad has won La Liga the past three years, but that reign seems to be over, as Real Madrid has taken a commanding lead this weekend. Barca trails by seven points with only four matches to play.

Fortunately, the team has a chance of redemption in the Champions League.

If they are able to get past Chelsea in the semifinals, there is a good chance they will have a rematch against their rivals.

A win in the Champions League Finals would leave the squad plenty satisfied with the season.

However, Tuesday's opponent will not be ready to roll over.

Chelsea is as tough as they come and know how to beat Barcelona. They have not lost once in the past six meetings between the two.

The squad succeeds by being able to neutralize the best player in the game—Lionel Messi.

Messi is the first person ever to score 14 goals in a single Champions League season, but he does not have a single career goal against Chelsea in seven career games.

Barca needs its other players to rise to the occasion, or else it will leave the week with an incredibly disappointing stretch of games.

The squad needs to overcome a 1-0 aggregate score deficit, but a quick start should put the team back in the finals where they belong.
