Oakland A's vs. Cleveland Indians: Ross Is Boss as A's Win Series Finale 5-1

Clarence Baldwin JrJun 7, 2018

Tyson Ross went 6.2 solid innings and Seth Smith's go-ahead, two-run home run propelled the A's to a 5-1 victory over Cleveland in the finale of their three-game series at the Coliseum. Ross allowed four hits and five walks, but only a first-inning run to notch his first victory of 2012. The A's bullpen did not allow a hit as they got the last seven outs to close the game.

Ross had a shaky first inning, giving up back-to-back doubles to Shin-Soo Choo and Travis Hafner, but then settled down to get out of trouble. The A's tied the score at one in the third inning when Cliff Pennington doubled to right-center field, scoring Jemile Weeks.

The following inning, the A's took the lead for good when after a Kila Ka'aihue walk, Smith hit a screaming rope just inside the right field foul pole to make it 3-1. The A's would also get RBI singles from Kurt Suzuki and Pennington to close the scoring. Pennington and Ka'aihue both had two hits as every A's starter reached base.

Good

Tyson Ross. Settling in nicely after the run in the first, Ross was solid throughout. He did have five walks, but managed to work around them all. Starts like this make the choice to have Graham Godfrey as the fifth starter over him even more of a head-scratcher.

Now 8-9, the A's will attempt to get back to .500 tomorrow night against the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a three-game series in Oakland. Bartolo Colon goes for his fourth win against Chicago's Jake Peavy. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
