Coolmore Lexington Stakes 2012: All Squared Away Proves Anything Is Possible

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

All Squared Away defied 70-1 odds at the 2012 Lexington Stakes and proved once again to sports fans that anything is possible.

How can you not love sports?

Every year during March Madness there are a handful of Cinderella teams that we grasp on to with the hopes that they can do the unthinkable and upset the superpowers. While most of our favorite professional players are undoubtedly the big stars, doesn't everybody have one or two bench or role players that they are just itching to see succeed?

We love seeing the odds defied, and that's one of the big reasons why we love sports.

All Squared Away is the most recent example of this trend, and he pulled off one of the biggest upsets we have seen, according to the Associated Press via ESPN:

"

They won with record-breaking odds in the 31-year-old Lexington Stakes.

All Squared Away fell from 50-1 to 70-1 on Saturday, but rallied to win the $200,000 Grade 3 race at Keeneland. He spoiled the Kentucky Derby chances of Castaway and other horses looking for earnings to make the 20-horse field.

"

What a great win and an incredible story.

The type of storylines that you can't script are always the best, and that's exactly what we got here.

Not only did All Squared Away fall in the odds, but he ended up beating them. Just like any good underdog story, he put his critics—and his opponents—behind him.

All Squared Away may never go on to win another race in his career, and chances are he'll never beat those kinds of odds again. Regardless, he and his team have already done their fair share.

This win proves once again that anything can happen, and reminds us why we love sports.
