UFC 145 Results: What's Next for Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson?
On the FX portion of UFC 145, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson faced off against "The Immortal" Matt Brown in a welterweight battle that saw both fighters have opportunities to finish the fight.
Neither were able to fully capitalize, and the fight went to a decision which—rightfully—went the way of Matt Brown.
Brown showed a highly superior ground game, and was able to completely control Thompson on the ground, even locking in a mounted triangle at the end of the fight.
Thompson rocked Brown several times, but was unable to put him away and get the finish, so when the scorecards were read, the judges saw the fight 30-27, 29-27 and 30-27.
Thompson is now 1-1 in the UFC, 6-1 in MMA, and will likely be given a lower level welterweight in an attempt to rebuild his confidence, as the UFC was clearly investing in him.
Thompson was supposed to fight Justin Edwards at UFC 143, so perhaps that will be the fight they look to make.
Another option would be another welterweight who suffered a loss, that being Keith Wisniewski. Joe Silva does like to match up fighters who competed on the same card.
Whoever Thompson does face next, expect to have him showcase some improved takedown defense.
