Chelsea vs. Arsenal: Blues Prove They Are No Match for Barcelona

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

Chelsea played red-hot Arsenal to a 0-0 draw in Saturday's Premier League tilt. The Blues struggled to advance the ball and proved this team is not ready to play Barcelona in Leg 2 of their UEFA Champions League matchup.

The Blues will need a better performance against Barcelona if they want to grab a victory on Tuesday. Chelsea will not deliver what is needed and Pep Guardiola's squad will win the contest.

Chelsea's style of play counteracts Barcelona's tactical prowess, but will not measure up this time around.

After looking at Chelsea's most recent performance against the Gunners, here is how Chelsea proved they will not be a match against the Catalans.

Lack of Firepower

Chelsea failed to score a goal in Saturday's contest versus Arsenal (granted, Arsenal failed to put one past Chelsea's defense). That will not cut it against Barcelona's electric attack.

Leo Messi and Co. only managed one goal against Real Madrid in Saturday's El Clasico. However, the attack is very reliable and will return in Tuesday's action.

The Blues must figure out how to get their attack going. In their dismal performance at the Emirates, Chelsea failed to generate any solid attacks, and lacked creativity in the open field.

Barcelona's defense will stymie Chelsea's strikers and force their midfielders to play on their heels. The Blues must find a way to generate offensive support, but they will not against the dynamic Barcelona squad.

Mental Toughness

Perhaps Chelsea was looking past Arsenal, eager to complete their UEFA Champions League semis. If in fact they were, that is not an excuse.

Elite teams do not take games off by overlooking opponents, especially familiar opponents near the top of their own league. Chelsea did not play focused and will not regain their composure against Barcelona.

Chelsea know the first goal of Tuesday's matchup is huge. If they come out of the gates groggy, Chelsea will watch Blaugrana strike first.

The Blues are a solid team with a staunch defense, but they will not be ready for the huge chip on Barcelona's shoulder.
