NHL Playoffs 2012: Penguins Will Ride Marc-Andre Fleury to Game 6 Victory

Ian HanfordApr 21, 2012

The Pittsburgh Penguins kept their Stanley Cup hopes alive in Game 5 against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Penguins will ride Marc-Andre Fleury to another shocking victory in Game 6 on Sunday.

Fleury stood on his head in Game 5, especially in the third period. He saved all 14 shots sent his way in the game's final stanza, regaining his Stanley Cup form.

Fleury's renewal in confidence could not be bigger for Pittsburgh. The Penguins do not have any trouble putting the puck in the net, but Fleury was dreadful through the series' first three games. With Fleury playing up to par once again, the Penguins become very tough to beat.

The Penguins still need two victories to Philadelphia's one to advance. However, the pressure rests solely on the Flyers' shoulders as they look to close out their bitter cross-state rivals.

What Fleury Must Do in Game 6

Fleury's epic Game 5 performance should not be shortchanged, but Game 6 will be a tougher task. The Penguins return to Philadelphia, and Fleury will not have the crowd support he enjoys in Consol Energy Center.

Fleury must tune the crowd out and play his game on Sunday. He oozes talent and athleticism in net, but his focus is shaky at times.

The Flyers have exploited Fleury's five-hole repeatedly in this series. He must shore that up, and make sure the Flyers get nothing easy.

Momentum will be a tremendous factor in whoever grabs a Game 6 victory. Fleury must do his best to quiet the Philadelphia faithful early, and allow his team to take control on the ice.

What Fleury Will Do in Game 6

Fleury will do exactly what he needs to in Game 6. He understands what it takes to win big games, and he will give Pittsburgh the opportunity to win Game 7 in front of their home crowd.

Fleury is a Stanley Cup-caliber goaltender. He underachieved in the early portion of this series, but he has improved dramatically.

Penguins fans can expect to see Fleury shutting the door on prospective Flyers goal-scorers repeatedly. He will be under duress, but Fleury understands how to counteract that after Game 5's third period barrage.

Fleury is the key to everything for Pittsburgh. When he plays up to his potential, the Penguins are arguably the best team in hockey.

Fleury will play up to his potential in Game 6, putting the Penguins one step closer to an incredible comeback.
