New York Yankees Hit 5 Home Runs in 6-2 Win over Boston Red Sox

Kenny DeJohnJun 7, 2018

The New York Yankees offense was firing on all cylinders today, mashing five home runs in Friday's 6-2 victory against the Boston Red Sox.

Ivan Nova pitched a strong game—six innings, two runs and five strikeouts—and helped the Yankees play spoiler on what was the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park.

On the season, Nova is now 3-0 with an ERA of 3.79. His terrible spring training looks to be a thing of the past, which is great news for the Yankees.

Boston's Clay Buchholz fell victim to the Yankees' powerful lineup, allowing all five of the home runs in his six innings of work.

Nick Swisher was the first to take him deep, hitting a solo home run in the second inning of the contest. It was his third of the season.

Eric Chavez then hit one of his own in the second inning. He didn't stop there, though. In the fourth, Chavez hit another solo shot off of Buchholz. They were his first two of the season.

Alex Rodriguez hit a milestone home run when he took Buchholz deep in the fifth inning. Rodriguez hit his 631st home run, passing Ken Griffey Jr. for fifth place on the all-time home run list.

It was his second of the season.

Russell Martin finished off the powerful day for the Yankees, hitting his first home run of the season in the sixth inning.

The damage could have been much worse, as all five of the home runs were solo shots.

The other run by the Yankees was scored on an RBI single to center field by Rodriguez.

Both teams will play again tomorrow in the second game of a three-game set. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX at 4:05 p.m. ET.
