WWE Extreme Rules: 6 Reasons Why CM Punk Will Lose in Chicago

David LevinJun 7, 2018

The "Second City" serves as the backdrop for Extreme Rules next Sunday evening. And with that being said, we all know what happened last year when CM Punk came home to Chicago and served up the biggest can of Whoop Ass on the WWE this side of a Stone Cold Stunner.

This year, however, could be different. With a program slated to have Punk defending his WWE Title against Chris Jericho "again," it looks like the WWE is sending a message to the faithful listeners in the WWE Universe and the IFC.

There is little that will change in this pay-per-view.

But I for one think differently about this match.

While Punk made a huge splash at MITB last year, things could be quite different this year in the place Punk cherishes so much. As he has said to Jericho on many an occasion, this one is now "personal" and Punk will have the pleasure of beating Jericho in front of his mother, sister and father.

Somehow, I see this going all wrong and Jericho coming out on top.

Here are seven reasons why CM Punk will probably lose the WWE Title at Extreme Rules.

It Would Be Too Easy for Punk to Win Again in Chicago

1 of 6

It's his hometown and when you are the champion, you get a better lot.

Not this time.

Punk stole the show (literally) last summer, but now, he is in an angle that seems a little over the top (IMO), And allowing Punk to beat the holy hell out of Jericho again and get the win isn't plausible.

If this was another wrestler, like John Cena, it may be different?

John Laurinatis Will Get Involved

2 of 6

You know Johnny Ace has as much love for Punk as he has for John Cena.

And Johnny would love nothing more than to foil any party plans for Punk and his family.

If the GM of the WWE has it his way, Punk will not leave Chicago with the belt, which is something he tried to stop the last time he was in Chicago.

Now, the stakes are higher.

Punk's Popularity Is Waning

3 of 6

Is it me or is he pressing too hard and the fans are picking up on it?

Watching him in the "alcohol" angle with Jericho, which is painful as is, has been a big disappointment for me and others.

Punk is defending his title at the beginning of the show or in the middle of the program.

The WWE champion should be the main event each time.

Chris Jericho Is Running out of Time

4 of 6

He may not win another WWE Title if he does not win it soon.

And if he wins, besides Punk, who will want a rematch, what other WWE superstar can stand toe to toe with him?

Jericho is still a great competitor, but he only matches well with some competitors.

The WWE Wants the Belt on Brock Lesnar

5 of 6

We all know this to be true.

If Lesnar defeats Cena and he starts to be the "corporate" champion, then you can expect him to be wearing gold soon.

And if we all can see the future, could there be a Lesnar/Rock title match in the waiting?

It's Time for a Change

6 of 6

Like with other titles, a change can do you good.

Punk has held the title for more than five months now. But as I have said in the past, he is better chasing the title than having it around his waist.

Jericho wearing gold only makes Punk mad.
