NFL Rumors: Dolphins Roster Makes Ryan Tannehill a Perfect Fit
The Miami Dolphins are in a perfect storm that makes Ryan Tannehill the perfect pick with the No. 8 overall selection.
Right off the bat, we have to acknowledge that our initial reaction to the mock drafts touting the Miami pick of Tannehill had us a little nauseous.
Given some time, we have grown accustomed and can see the value in picking a player like him here—but only if they are truly sold on his long-term ability to become a superstar.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
If the only hiccup is that he needs a season or two—then you make that pick and never look back.
If you want the likelihood that Tannehill does indeed go to Miami, consider the latest from ESPN's Adam Schefter, writing from his mailbag.
"...the best course of action for the Dolphins is to sit tight and hope Tannehill falls to them at No. 8. My sense is that Cleveland will not take Tannehill at No. 4...However, if it costs the Dolphins only a midround pick to move up a spot or two to ensure they get Tannehill—assuming they really like him—they should not bypass that opportunity...
"
Now comes the reason why this draft would make sense, because even I could see that Tannehill is far more valuable at this point in his maturation process as a second-rounder.
ESPN's James Walker has a great breakdown on the Miami Dolphins and their issues heading into the draft. Simply put, they are far from one player off from being a winning team.
"The right side of Miami's offense line also is a problem. The Dolphins lost their starting right guard (Vernon Carey) and starting right tackle (Marc Colombo) in free agency. With uncertainty at quarterback, below-average receivers and major holes on the right side of the offensive line, Miami's offense is not set up for early success...
"
It's time to build slowly, and Tannehill is the kind of quarterback that would benefit from a slow and methodical build.
The issue comes in the fanbase craving immediate success after such inadequacy, and a slow process on a QB they may not see for a couple seasons will certainly draw their ire.
I can only hold onto the analysis that Tannehill is the big arm that can be a franchise player in time. If that is how the Dolphins see this prospect, the gamble becomes a no-brainer, because no draft selection at the time is going to equal a quick turnaround.
Patience will have to be a virtue for the franchise, and Tannehill remains the best QB with the most upside in this draft.
The dividends he can pay down the line far outweigh the reach.
The last thing they want is to lose out on a game changer when they are in the perfect position to skirt other teams that would be quick to take the gamble as well.
Roster woes and team needs culminate to make this reach the only pick worth making in the first round.
