3 Players Who Can Help Liverpool Win the Premier League

Sam BecroftApr 20, 2012

With Liverpool's season effectively over (barring the FA Cup final), attention is starting to turn towards the summer transfer window. Liverpool clearly need to make improvements; currently, only Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard can claim to be world-class players.

While I'm not saying these signings will all happen, I believe that they offer the best chance of future success for the club. It would take a significant financial investment from the owners to purchase all three of these players—each would cost in the region of £20 million.

However long term, these prices could look like absolute bargains. They are all either world-class players or possess world-class talent.

Here are three signings that could one day win Liverpool the Premier League.

Yann M'Vila

Coming into the season, central midfield was lauded as the strongest area of the Liverpool squad. With Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson, Lucas, Steven Gerrard and Jay Spearing, what could possibly go wrong?

When Lucas Leiva was ruled out for the season, the midfield struggled dreadfully. They lacked bite, steel and creativity—all things Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila brings to the table.

The French youngster has already drawn comparisons to French legend Claude Makelele for his power and passing ability. He is strong in the challenge and is an effective shield for the back four. But more importantly, he is a deep-lying playmaker capable of sparking counter-attacks and opening up defenses; M'Vila can do it all.

M'Vila would by no means be cheap—he would most likely cost Liverpool something in the region of £20 million. While this may seem like an exorbitant amount to spend on a player unproven in the Premier League, M'Vila is equipped with both the physicality and ability to succeed.

Liverpool must pull the trigger on M'Vila this summer, whatever the cost; he is simply that good. He will add both solidity and creativity to a midfield in desperate need of a revamp.

Christian Eriksen

Liverpool's biggest struggle this season has been in the final third. They have been bereft of direction, ideas and creativity. The club is in desperate need of players that can beat their man one-on-one and deliver killer passes.

At 20 years old, Christian Eriksen is already capable of the sublime. He can do things with a ball that can  hypnotise you. He has the pace, skill, vision and ruthless instinct required to become a superstar. Eriksen would breathe life into an ageing Liverpool side and instantly make them a contender once again.

Like M'Vila, Eriksen would cost upwards of £20 million. For me, this is an absolute bargain. Barring injury, Eriksen has at least another decade of football ahead of him. He has the talent to become the best attacking midfielder in the world.

Playing in behind Luis Suarez, Eriksen would wreak havoc on Premier League defenses. His addition would put Liverpool well on the way to once again contending for the Premier League title.

Roberto Soldado

Last but not least, Liverpool need a goal-scoring striker. In the current season, Liverpool have managed only 40 league goals—less than half of both Man City's (85) and Man United's (82) totals. More alarmingly, Liverpool have been outscored by Fulham (43), Norwich (47) and relegation candidates Blackburn (45).

The reality is, Liverpool need to score more goals. They are in desperate need of a ruthless finisher, someone capable of scoring 25-plus goals per season

Roberto Soldado has been banging in goals for fun for Valencia in Spain's La Liga. He already has 18 this season in the league alone and would represent a serious upgrade to Liverpool's front line. He is a genuine poacher who can score goals in any fashion.

Interestingly, Soldado has already been linked with Liverpool by Metro. He is also being labeled as Liverpool's top target by reputable contributors on the Liverpool Rumours website.

Soldado is another player who won't come cheap, with Valencia floating a fee of around £25 million. He could be the missing piece to the Liverpool side. Imagine how many of this season's disappointing draws could have been wins with Soldado, rather than Andy Carroll leading the line.

A side containing Luis Suarez, Christian Eriksen, Steven Gerrard and Roberto Soldado would be a force to be reckoned with; Liverpool would once again challenge for the Premier League title.
