2012 NFL Draft: LSU CB Ron Brooks' Versatility and Speed Will Lead to Success

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Former LSU Tigers' defensive back Ron Brooks is an extremely confident player, and he's sure his speed, quickness and versatility will translate well into the NFL.

Brooks is a sleeper pick, there's no doubt about it.

He may not have the biggest name in the draft, but consider the fact that he played on a stellar LSU defense and was overshadowed by huge names such as Morris Claiborne and Michael Brockers. It's easy for a very talented player to take the back seat on that defense, and that's what makes Brooks so dangerous: He's extremely talented and extremely underrated.

Back at the 2012 NFL scouting combine I was able to sit down with Brooks and ask him a few questions regarding his thoughts on the upcoming draft.

Here's what he had to say.

Q) What’s It Like Being so Close to Accomplishing This Dream?

1 of 6

Ron Brooks:

I mean, just to be so close it’s like you are almost there so you want to keep pushing and do every little thing you can to get over that little hump and make your dream a reality.

Q) What Would You Consider to Be Strength of Your Game?

2 of 6

Ron Brooks:

My speed and quickness, I’m very fast, quick, agile, can move.

Q) so You Think You Can Stick with Guys Like Calvin Johnson and the Big NFL Names?

3 of 6

Ron Brooks:

I feel like I can, it shouldn’t be a problem speed wise hanging with those guys.

Q. If I Was an NFL Team and I Had to Make a Choice, Why Should I Pick You?

4 of 6

Ron Brooks:

You are getting the most for your money. You’re getting a guy that can play corner, nickel and dime, safety, special teams. Whatever you need me to do I’m able to do it and it’s not a problem.

Q) Is There a Part of Your Game That You Feel You Can Work On?

5 of 6

Ron Brooks:

Overall game there’s always something you can get better at whether it be rushing the passer, your coverage skills, whatever. I just feel I want to be a better complete player.

My Take:

6 of 6

Brooks is going to be successful in the NFL, and he's a pretty big sleeper pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

He's extremely confident in his abilities and he's willing to prove that his speed, quickness and versatility will be a factor in the NFL. He ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the NFL combine mind you.

He's not the biggest name out there, but that doesn't mean he can't have a huge impact.

Look out for Ron Brooks in the NFL.
