WWE SmackDown Preview: Spoiler-Free Preview of This Week's Episode (April 20)

Drake OzJun 4, 2018

Want to have an idea of what’s going to happen on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown without actually knowing the results? Well, you’re in the right place, because I’m going to provide you with a detailed segment-by-segment breakdown of what you can expect to see on tomorrow night’s show.

I won’t give you the results of each segment, but I will provide you with an outline of tomorrow’s show so that you can have a general sense of what to look for throughout this week’s episode.

Alright, let’s gets started.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

Here is a spoiler-free preview for the April 20th edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

Daniel Bryan Promo

SmackDown kicks off with former World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan addressing the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view, as well as some other topics.

Given Bryan’s increasing popularity, his recently-ended relationship with A.J. and his quest to win back the World title, it should be interesting to see what Bryan has to say in front of the UK crowd.

Natalya vs. A.J.

Speaking of Bryan, his ex-girlfriend A.J. competes in the first match on this week’s SmackDown against former Divas Champion Natalya.

A.J. will be looking to continue her winning ways in a rare face vs. face Divas match against Natalya, who I hope won’t be passing too much gas this week.

Damien Sandow Promo

One of SmackDown’s newest superstars addresses the WWE Universe via TitanTron.

Might wanna get out your thesaurus for this one.

Brodus Clay vs. Hunico

“The Funkasaurus” has been on a roll as of late and is looking to pick up another win against infrequently-seen superstar Hunico, who is hoping to rebound from that embarrassing showing against “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan last week.

Titus O’Neil and Darren Young vs. The Usos

O’Neil and Young recently had their profiles switched to the SmackDown section of WWE.com, so it looks like they will be the blue brand’s newest tag team.

In their first match as SmackDown stars, they’ll take on the Usos, who will be competing in a tag team match for the second straight week.

Alberto Del Rio vs. The Big Show (non-title match)

So, I guess ADR is once again a SmackDown superstar? Who knows.

Anyway, it’s Del Rio taking on Big Show in this non-title bout. But with ADR’s beef with Sheamus and Show’s ongoing feud with Cody Rhodes, these two guys might want to keep their heads on a swivel.

Ryback vs. Danny Merman

Might we see Merman suffer the same fate as Benny Kaymer and Barry Stevens?

Ryback has been wreaking havoc on SmackDown and is looking to make Merman just his latest victim.

Backstage Segment

A number of people appear in this backstage segment, but I can’t say much else or I’ll spoil it for you.

Main Event: Sheamus, Randy Orton and The Great Khali vs. Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes and Mark Henry

In a traditional battle of good versus evil, three of SmackDown’s top babyfaces battle three of its top heels in this six-man tag team match.

Which team will get the victory to build up some momentum as we draw closer to Extreme Rules?

Tune in to tomorrow’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown to find out.

Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-to-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
