Roger Clemens Trial: The Joke Continues as the Money Is Squandered

Harold FriendApr 18, 2012

Barry Bonds was found guilty of one charge of obstruction of justice. Some or even most Americans might believe or want to believe that he used performance-enhancing substances knowingly, but that belief could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Roger Clemens is being re-tried for allegedly lying to Congress about his alleged use of performance-enhancing substances. Clemens decided to defend himself against accusations that he used steroids, which resulted in some members of Congress putting themselves in the position of having to prove that he did.

Jury selection has been fascinating despite the fact that it has been moving along slowly. Many individuals in the Washington, D.C. area have never heard of Roger Clemens. Some potential jurors think that it is wrong to cheat.

One man that was questioned about steroid use responded, according to The Washington Post, โ€œIf it gives somebody an edge, it should be illegal." One must wonder if he drinks coffee or has ever used an energy drink.

When Barry Bonds' trial was mentioned, one potential juror had strong feelings. โ€œIn a way, it's cheating. If youโ€™re a professional and you do something professionally, you should act with integrity,โ€ he said.

Rusty Hardin, Clemens' lead attorney and a real-life Bobby Donnell, knows most individuals that believe Bonds should have been found guilty do not look favorably at Clemens.

A woman that was questioned by both sides spoke to Judge Reggie Walton. She said that her husband wanted to know what had occurred during her interview. She, of course, being a good citizen, refused to tell her husband anything.

โ€œWe didnโ€™t talk the whole night. This ainโ€™t gonna work in my house," she said to the judge. He dismissed her from serving.

The entire trial is a joke. It is, as many potential jurors have pointed out, a waste of money and time.
