Randy Moss and the 5 Biggest Jokes of 2012 NFL Season
There's no doubt that any player that makes it into the NFL has a certain level of talent. A talent that earns them millions of dollars for the opportunity to play a game in front of millions of fans.
Basically, it's the perfect career.
Athletes have become celebrities, role models and some of the most influential people in the world.
This puts a certain power into the athletes' hands.
For some, it provides an opportunity for success, and for others, it becomes a nightmare. With so much money and power, some athletes have a tendency to make a fool out of themselves.
Randy Moss was just one of the names on the list in 2011.
Randy Moss
1 of 5While Randy Moss did not actually play a game in 2011, it should have stayed that way.
Moss had a disappointing season with the Tennessee Titans in 2010, finishing with just six catches for 80 yards in eight games.
But that's not where the misery began.
After a record-setting 2007 season with the New England Patriots, Moss had two more productive seasons as a Patriot.
Then it got ugly.
The first four games of the 2010 season with New England were filled with whines and complaints from Moss about not receiving an extension. Bill Belichick quickly had enough and sent Moss back to the Vikings, where his path to stardom began.
No. 84 was still not happy and he openly criticized then head coach Brad Childress and the organization.
Four games after his arrival and Moss was waived. That's when the Tennessee Titans decided to pick up the fool.
Randy Moss, who thought he was too good for the Patriots and the Vikings, finished with a career-low 383 receiving yards and was not resigned by the Titans.
How embarrassing.
So Randy Moss promptly and properly retired, and rightfully so.
End of story, well...not quite.
On February 13, 2012, Moss announced he would return to the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. So, without even playing a down of football in 2011, Randy Moss will still be one of the biggest jokes of the year in 2012.
Desean Jackson
2 of 5Desean Jackson may be one of the most talented jokes on the list, but a joke nonetheless.
Since being drafted in 2009 with the 49th pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, Jackson has brought a whole new dimension to the offense. Jackson has averaged over 14 yards per reception in each of his first four seasons.
However, with all the talent comes a lot of distractions.
All of the showboating and smack talk was cute when Jackson first got into the league. He was young, fast and able to break open a game on offense and special teams.
It has gotten old quickly.
After a season in which Jackson only had four touchdown receptions on offense and not a single special teams touchdown, it's time to grow up.
Jackson won't get the message, and he will surely be one of the biggest jokes in 2012.
Chad Ochocinco
3 of 5Chad Ochocinco has long been the poster boy for just how ridiculous some athletes can get.
No. 85 has raced a horse, rode a bull and changed his last name to his jersey number.
Need I say more?
After all the theatrics Ochocinco has put forth, he only had 15 receptions for 276 yards in the 2011 regular season. It's hard to imagine he could make any less of an impact than less than a catch a game, but through the Patriots' run to the Super Bowl, Ochocinco only hauled in one catch.
While Ochocinco struggled to get onto the field in 2011, he restructured his contract, taking less money, so he could stay a Patriot in 2012.
Perhaps wisdom does come with age.
After all, Ochocinco is changing his name back to Johnson so his fiance wouldn't be stuck with Evelyn Ochocinco.
Although he's calming down and finally making some reasonable decisions as of late, Chad Ochocinco will likely struggle to find playing time in 2012.
While his performance on the field will suffer, we can always expect a show off the field from Mr. Ochocinco.
Josh Freeman
4 of 5Josh Freeman was drafted in the first round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the future quarterback of the franchise.
Freeman has yet to achieve anything close to that.
Now while Freeman is not as ridiculous as Moss, Jackson or Ochocinco, 2012 looks to be a bad year in south Florida.
In 2011, Freeman threw 22 interceptions compared to only 16 touchdowns.
That's a joke in itself.
With all the signs pointing towards the Buccaneers drafting Morris Claiborne in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft, it looks like Freeman will have the much of the same offensive players next year.
The same group that finished in the bottom third of the league in yards per game.
Freeman was drafted with high expectations and has given Tampa Bay nothing in return so far. While his future still may hold success, 2012 won't be the year it all turns around.
Michael Vick
5 of 5Before all you Eagle fans begin to troll, you have to sit back and look at what Vick has done since his return to the NFL.
Sure, Vick was a sensation in his first year, but the production has since dropped off dramatically.
The Eagles missed the playoffs altogether in 2011 for goodness sake, and no, it's not Andy Reid's fault.
In 2011, Vick threw a career-high 14 interceptions in only 13 games along with fumbling the ball three times. Vick may be athletic, but he has not shown the ability to read defenses at all. He consistently misses his reads, which gets him into trouble.
Relying on athleticism only gets a player so far, and that's what we have seen from Michael Vick.
For the Eagles to make the playoffs in 2012, Vick needs to improve his decision making dramatically.
That's something Vick hasn't even come close to proving yet.
