Manchester United vs Everton: Predicting United's Starting Lineup
Manchester United's lead at the top of the Premier League table was restored to five points with their rampant 4-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend and most feel that they are destined to win 20th league title.
The Reds next face an in-form Everton side who, despite losing to Liverpool in their FA Cup semifinal at the weekend, will be desperate to pick themselves up and finish the season on a high note.
Here are my predictions for United's starting lineup.
Defense
1 of 3GK: David De Gea
An obvious pick.
LB: Patrice Evra
Patrice Evra is Manchester United's captain in the absence of Nemanja Vidic, so only injury will keep him out of the side.
RB: Rafael
By far United's best player at right-back, the Brazilian's defensive performances have improved as the season has wore on. In addition, his fluid partnership with Antonio Valencia guarantees his place in the team.
CB: Rio Ferdinand
This season, Rio Ferdinand has managed to keep the back issues, which have often caused him problems in the past, at bay. As such, he has been able to get regular play under his belt, which has helped his form and benefited the team.
CB: Jonny Evans
Recently referred to as "arguably the best defender in the country" by Sir Alex Ferguson, Jonny Evans has been one of United's best performers in this league campaign, and is sure to start against Everton.
Midfield
2 of 3LM: Ashley Young
My heart says Nani, my head says Ashley Young.
RM: Antonio Valencia
No comments needed, surely.
CM: Paul Scholes
Voted by United fans as man of the match in last weekend's victory over Aston Villa, and surely one of United's players of the season, Paul Scholes is more than likely going to start for United.
CM: Michael Carrick
Employed as a protector of the back four nowadays, Michael Carrick's form has visibly improved since the return of Scholes, and given the good partnership the two share, it's likely that Carrick will retain his place in the team.
Attack
3 of 3SC: Danny Welbeck
It is my belief that Sir Alex Ferguson genuinely prefers Javier 'Chicarito' Hernandez as partner to Wayne Rooney upfront in attack, but he's realized, just as many fans have, that United unfortunately do not have the quality in midfield to supply the Mexican. As such, the next option is to play Danny Welbeck.
SC: Wayne Rooney
Rooney's selection goes without saying.
