Brock Lesnar: Feud with John Cena Lacks Punch to Rile Up Fans

Eric BallApr 16, 2012

The WWE is force-feeding us a Brock Lesnar and John Cena feud, and I’m not buying it.

The buildup and hype for Cena vs. The Rock was epic. Two of the biggest stars the sport had ever seen squaring off at WrestleMania? A wrestling fan's dream come true.

Now the WrestleMania hangover is in full swing, and the creative team decided to make a splash by bringing back Lesnar.

Problem is, he simply doesn’t have the mic skills of Cena. Whether he grabs the microphone or is on the big screen, I can’t help but chuckle as he stumbles over words and lacks excitement. The Rock is one of the greatest entertainers of all time, and that’s what really added flair to the match.

Lesnar is nothing more than a big, burly goon who jumps around sports where he can hit people to stay relevant. He shunned the WWE world and its fans for the UFC and came crawling back once he could no longer put up a decent fight.

He lacks swagger and personality and has rather rusty wrestling skills as well. Was he supposed to bloody Cena’s lip on Monday Night Raw last week? Doubtful.

On this week’s episode, he delivered a rather weak message to Cena via a video screen that made it official the two will be facing off at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view event.

I know not every PPV event can be WrestleMania, but thus far I feel like the creative team has really been lazy when writing the script for this feud. Some sort of sudden event needs to happen. Chris Jericho is dumping alcohol all over CM Punk. Sheamus is looking to land a Brogue Kick on Daniel Bryan seemingly every time they see each other.

The time to drum up more excitement before the April 29th  live event is beginning to run out. Something crazy needs to happen between these two in a hurry, or WWE risks serving up a dud in what should be the main event in Extreme Rules.
