Gregg Williams Tape Leak Shouldn't Force NFL Teams to Tighten Security

After documentary filmmaker Sean Pamphilon released the audio tape of Gregg Williams' now-infamous speech to the New Orleans Saints last season, you can expect NFL teams to tighten security in the locker room moving forward.

But releasing the speech Williams gave to the Saints before their playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers actually will help the NFL in the long run, and for that, the league should be thankful.

Who knows how much longer Williams would have gone on employing the same philosophy on the field, asking his players to target stars and potentially end careers. Where would that have gotten the NFL? This is certainly a black mark in the NFL's history, but if it hadn't have happened, when would the NFL have woken up?

You can bet the Saints are one of the teams that will close their doors moving forward, but how many more teams will do the same? Where will that get the NFL? 

It will get the NFL back to square one, that's where, and nobody wants that. If I was commissioner (a game I'm sure all of us play from time to time), I'd require documentaries to be made on every NFL team at this point. Transparency is key, because if you don't have transparency, things like Bountygate tend to happen, and that (literally) hurts the entire league.

And the reality is, while Bountygate was an exaggerated version, plenty of shady stuff happens on the field all the time, whether it be via the Saints or another team in the league. Sometimes a locker room can reveal things about a particular incident, and at this point, there needs to be more of an explanation for controversial events.

Pamphilon's tape has caused quite a stir, but he should be deemed a hero, and hopefully, he can be an agent of change in how the NFL oversees teams.
