Boston Marathon 2012: Tedy Bruschi and More Celebrities Competing in Event
The 2012 Boston Marathon is set to kick off soon and a number of celebrities like former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi will be competing in the race.
This is Bruschi’s first marathon and he plans to raise money for Tedy’s Team, an organization that is linked with the American Stroke Association.
Tedy’s career was nearly cut short because of a stroke he suffered back in 2005 and forced him to miss that year, but he returned for the 2006-2008 seasons.
Let’s take a look at some of the other celebrities and what they will be running for.
Kristine Lilly
Lilly is a former U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team forward/midfielder and Massachusetts resident.
She will be competing for the Children’s Hospital Boston and hoping to raise awareness and money while giving the marathon everything she has.
Ryan Sutter
The Bachelorette reality television star is competing in the 2012 Boston Marathon because of his friend Ethan Zohn.
Zohn is another television celebrity who is battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma and cannot participate.
He’ll be supporting Grassroot Soccer, an organization that Zohn started.
Tedy Bruschi
Bruschi won three Super Bowls with the Patriots and is hoping to accomplish something bigger now that he is done with the NFL.
By becoming the face of stroke awareness, research and recovery—especially in young people—Bruschi will be able to make a lasting impact on the world.
His participation in a marathon, a 26-plus mile race, is something that is to be admired and respected.
Tedy is definitely the biggest celeb in the race and one that will get a lot of attention for a positive purpose.
