WWE Extreme Rules 2012: What Does Chris Jericho Do Next After Losing?

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

Yes, I believe CM Punk will defeat Chris Jericho in two weeks. His WWE championship reign will continue, and it will all but end their current feud.

It is just my opinion, but that is the best possible result for both men. It was a fun ride, but I can't see this dragging on for much longer.

It was the same thing with Randy Orton vs. Christian last summer. As great as it was, the two needed to move on after multiple matches.

I am sure CM Punk will find an opponent for his WWE title. Whether it is Lord Tensai, Mark Henry or another round with Dolph Ziggler, it will be interesting to see.

Yes, I also believe Punk will get past Henry this Monday night.

However, what does Jericho do?

His entire purpose for returning to the company was to go for the gold. I never believed he would succeed, but that is not the point. The point is his "mission" failed (kayfabe).

What does he do next?

There has been tons of discussion about his future with WWE throughout the year. I could see him sticking around. I could also see him leaving for a few months, before coming back again.

Looking at the current landscape, who is there to feud with Jericho?

John Cena—This has been done to death, but they always had great matches. With Brock Lesnar looking to destroy him at Extreme Rules, I am not even sure if Cena makes it through the show.

Randy Orton—See my point? I am already stretching to find an opponent for Jericho. Orton may have knocked his head off in 2010, but that hasn't been mentioned much (if at all). Also, there is this little fact that Mr. RKO is on the Blue Brand.

Sheamus—The brand extension means very little these days, but this could work. Daniel Bryan isn't winning the world title, so let Sheamus defeat Jericho for a few weeks. It would help him get over and give the Celtic Warrior some credible wins.

Again, what is there for Jericho to do on Raw? Name another top face ready to battle against him.

Exactly.

Another match with CM Punk—Honestly, this may be the only option left. You can see how WWE is in need of top faces right now. Big Show, R-Truth or Kofi Kingston would all be a disappointment to see feud with Jericho.

In the end, I think Jericho takes some time away. Whether Punk "takes him out" at Extreme Rules or not, I just can't see a lot of choices going forward.
