Marquez vs Fedchenko: Marquez Doesn't Deserve Rematch with Manny Pacquiao

Timothy RappApr 15, 2012

Juan Manuel Marquez had little issue handling Sergey Fedchenko in the WBO interim 140-pound title fight between the two.

But that doesn't mean he should be next in line to face Manny Pacquiao.

Been there, done that.

Let's keep it real—the only fight boxing fans want to see is one between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Marquez has been given three opportunities to fight Pacquiao—what would be compelling about a fourth?

If there is something to be said for Marquez, it is that he doesn't lose to non-elite talent. From the Associated Press:

"

Marquez (54-6-1) had little trouble picking apart Fedchenko (30-2) in his first fight since losing a majority decision to Manny Pacquiao in November. Two judges saw the fight 118-110 for Marquez, with a third favoring the multidivision champion 119-109.

Marquez, who still holds out hope for a fourth fight with Pacquiao, hasn’t lost to anyone but Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr. in six years.

"

Yes, the last fight between Marquez and Pacquiao was a good one. But who cares?

That's just another fight. Nobody will remember the fourth bout between the two 25 years ago unless it is some sort of epic brawl, and what are the chances of that?

No, the only fight worth seeing is the super fight boxing fans have been cheated out of for years now. This isn't about blaming sides at this point—it's simply about what fans of the sport haven't been allowed to see.

A fourth fight between Marquez and Pacquiao would be salt in that wound. And get ready for the salt, because it seems like the more likely fight at this point.

And frankly, that stinks.
