Bruins-Capitals Video: Watch Nicklas Backstrom Win Game 2 in Double-Overtime

Nicholas GossApr 14, 2012

Nicklas Backstrom scored in double overtime to help the Washington Capitals tie their first-round series with the Boston Bruins 1-1, as the two teams head to Washington for Game 3 on Monday night.

Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby was the star of the game, making 39 saves in the victory. Holtby has been the player of the series thus far, and hasn't looked like a goalie whose coming off his first two career playoff starts.

The Capitals had to win a game in Boston to upset the defending champions in this series, and now they have their important road win. This victory will definitely give them a ton of confidence as they fly home.

This series has been a physical battle, with the goaltenders being the stars for both teams. The Capitals have tried to match the Bruins' bruising style through the first two games, and although it's been pretty effective thus far, it could hurt them later in the series when the physical play takes its toll on the body.

With both teams struggling to score, Holtby and Bruins goalie Tim Thomas will have to maintain their great play between the pipes as the series heads to the Verizon Center.

This was the second overtime game of the series—the Bruins won Game 1 in extra time on a goal by forward Chris Kelly.

It was also the second double-overtime game of the NHL playoffs thus far—the other was Game 1 of the St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks first-round series.
