St. Louis will need to refocus quickly in order to end a two-game losing streak, which includes a 9-5 defeat to the Cubs as -180 favorites on Friday night. The club is now 7-3 in its last 10 games in this series at Busch Stadium.
Lance Lynn (1-0, 1.35 ERA) will look to build off his first start of the season, notching a 9-3 road win over the Milwaukee Brewers on April 8, scattering two hits and allowing just a single run over 6.2 strong innings.
The right-hander tossed two shutout innings in his only appearance in relief against the Cubs last year.
Sports bettors will find the Cardinals are 20-8 in their last 28 games following a loss.
Chicago will counter with right-hander Chris Volstad (0-0, 5.40 ERA), who will be focused on ending a 12-start winless streak that dates back to July 17 of last year.
In four career starts versus St. Louis, Volstad has registered a 2-1 record and 5.11 ERA, issuing eight walks and tallying just five strikeouts in 24.2 combined frames.
The Cubs have split six day games this year, but are 72-86 in that situation since the start of the 2010 campaign.
Weather forecasts suggest thunderstorms will be in the area throughout the day, while game-time temperatures will reach the low 70s. A breeze out of the south at 10-15 mph is also expected.
