Demaryius Thomas' Comments Prove Tim Tebow Is NFL's Most Polarizing Figure

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

As if Tim Tebow wasn't polarizing enough, Demaryius Thomas added more fuel to the fire.

In a radio interview with The 2 Live Stews out of Atlanta, the Denver Broncos wide receiver had some pointed comments about the southpaw quarterback, who was under center when the team won the AFC West crown and a miraculous playoff game with the Pittsburgh Steelers:

"

It's a business decision. I ain't going to say I was sad (about Tim leaving) because the only thing they remember is that pass. You gotta go back and look at the rest of the games. I wasn't getting no balls. You had to make some of these plays where some players were open and he is not making the throws, but I don't want to talk bad about Tim, but hey I am happy we got Peyton.

He went on to discuss the feeling inside the Broncos' locker room during Tebow-mania:

"

There wasn't much talk about him, but you know everything on ESPN was all about Tim. That bothered some players too because they would say "Tim Tebow Time.' I felt like it was a team thing. If it wasn't for the defense most of the time there wouldn't be no supposed 'Tim Tebow Time.

"

Thomas finished his interview by touching on Tebow's trade to the New York Jets:

"

I ain't going to say it was a good move, but I really don't know. I feel like Tim can get better, but it is going to take some time because he's got to read the defenses and throwing patterns.

"

While I've definitely heard and read far worse about Tebow as a quarterback, this was clearly far from a ringing endorsement.

It's pretty obvious that Thomas made some great points and some rather stupid ones, but my intention isn't to decide whether what Thomas said was incorrect or not. Rather, it's to point out that these comments themselves prove Tebow's true polarizing nature.

Thomas could have been frustrated with Tebow throughout the season, but would it have been that hard for him to wish him the best of luck in New York?

Why couldn't he have just said that he is happy that Peyton Manning will be throwing him passes for the foreseeable future?

Emotions get so stirred up when it comes to Tebow, that even his former teammates can't keep their mouths shut.

If Thomas and possibly a handful of Bronco teammates were "bothered by Tim Tebow time," what does that say about his overall perception around the league?

Many love him, stand by him in his profound leadership and calmly acknowledge his quarterback shortcomings may or may not be erased with time and experience. Others simply don't like the media cyclone that swirls around him wherever he goes and are turned off by the way it seemingly has launched him to a level of superstardom that he doesn't deserve.

Don't forget, though, he doesn't control ESPN.

The fact is, Tim Tebow remains the most polarizing figure in the NFL, and probably in all of sports.
