New York Yankees: Three-Game Sweep Gets Bombers' 2012 Season Rolling

Mike MoraitisMay 31, 2018

Uh oh. The New York Yankees started 0-3 and, of course, that was a harbinger of bad things to come for the Bronx Bombers.

Just like it might've been in 1998 before the Yanks went on to win 125 of their next 170 games en route to a World Series.

So, it was only fitting that the Bombers drew the Baltimore Orioles, their annual whipping boy, and promptly swept them out of Camden Yards to get back to a .500 record.

Coming into this game, you might've thought it was CC Sabathia who would rebound after a bad first start and continue his career dominance of the O's.

But that didn't even pan out for New York, and instead, the Yanks barely got Sabathia out of the loss with a late rally to force the game to extra innings.

The most interesting thing to come out of the first six games of 2012 is the fact that five of the games have been poorly pitched and this team is still 3-3.

Only Ivan Nova's performance, seven innings allowing two runs on ten hits, was the Yanks only truly acceptable pitching performance of the season, thus far. Nobody scatters hits like Nova.

Shows you how much spring training means.

Another disaster averted, New York can now steady itself and get ready for the long haul of the season. The Yankees will have a tough division to navigate but can take solace in the fact that they are winning games without getting the best of their starting rotation.

It can only get better from here.
