Big Ten Football: Some More Helpful Twitter Hashtags to Put on Big Ten Fields
At Michigan's spring game this weekend, the Wolverines are going to put a Twitter hashtag on the field. Well, two, technically, one at each 25-yard line, but they're both #GOBLUE.
Now, putting a hashtag right on the field where nobody can miss it is a bold new foray into social media for Michigan and college football as a whole. Older fans are going to lecture their grandchildren for not knowing that the hashtag symbol is really called an "octothorpe," middle-aged fans will wonder why the pound symbol from the telephone is right there next to the letters, and younger, tech-savvy Wolverine fans will simply ignore it, because nobody tells them what to hashtag! Internet activism!
In other words, it'll be exactly how Twitter works already.
So being that we're pressing forward into the realm of 140 characters here in the Big Ten, let's put a hashtag on everyone's field. Here are some polite suggestions.
Legends Division
Iowa: #STOPAIRBHG
Michigan: #DOWNINFRONT
Michigan State: #OURSUCCESSISTOTALLYSUSTAINABLE
Minnesota: #KILLKILLKILL (note: the Internet police strongly discourage using this hashtag)
Nebraska: #PLEASETAYLORDONTTHROWIT
Northwestern: #NETWORTH or #STOCKSANDBONDS or whatever rich people use Twitter for
Leaders Division
Illinois: #BECKMANISNTZOOK
Indiana: #PLEASEDONTTAKEKEVINWILSONAWAYFROMUSWEJUSTWANTTOHAVENICETHINGSFORONCEDIDYOUKNOWLEECORSOWASOURCOACHONEANDHEWASASGOODASWEVEHADTHATSHOWBADITISH
Ohio State: #DONTTELLURBANWE'RESTILLUSINGTWITTER
Penn State: # (in keeping with the all-white helmets, Penn State is going minimalist with its hashtag by leaving it blank)
Purdue: #STILLB1GMEMBERSINGOODSTANDING
Wisconsin: #BEER
