Liverpool vs. Everton: What the Rival Fans Are Saying on Twitter

Michael CummingsJun 6, 2018

It's a 21st-century twist on a timeless rivalry.

Old rivals Everton and Liverpool meet in the FA Cup semifinals on Saturday, and as you might expect, Twitter is brimming with comments from fans on both sides.

Some are surprisingly nice, while others are predictably venomous.

Here are nine choice tweets that will hopefully keep you satisfied until the big game.

Andy Carroll on Track?

1 of 9

Liverpool's much-maligned £35 million striker, Andy Carroll, scored a late winner for the Reds on Tuesday against Blackburn.

That fact has led to two trains of thought heading into this weekend's match:

1. Andy Carroll is awesome, and Liverpool are definitely going to win. Woo!

2. Andy Carroll is crap, and Everton are definitely going to win. Woo!

"

Liverpool fan in the gym overheard saying "Carroll is gonna smash Everton". No he isn't flower...go and have a lie down #talkingbollox

Snarky Scousers

2 of 9

One can always rely on rival fans to go back and forth with snarky, passive-aggressive comments before a match. That's true on Twitter, too.

Here's the picture attached to this Tweet.

"

Good old Everton, can always rely on them for a bit of comedy. Get to many big occasions, do you? twitpic.com/98irlp

Brad Jones' Great Story

3 of 9

It's hard not to like the story of Liverpool keeper Brad Jones. If you're not aware of the adversity he's faced, read about him here.

"

Chuffed to bits for @Brad_Jones1. After all he's been through, if Everton think he'll choke come Saturday they can think again! #perspective

Who's the Favorite?

4 of 9

This tweet came from an Everton supporter in response to a question posed by the official Everton account.

Is this an example of supporters playing mind games? Or do Everton fans really think Liverpool are the favorites?

"

@Everton Liverpool are always the favourites given recent history and our uncanny knack to make Gerrard look like Messi. #Istillbelieve

A Lesson in Subtlety

5 of 9

Of course, there's always the subtle approach to supporting one's team, as Twitter user @Mark11980 has demonstrated.

"

I hope Everton DESTROY Liverpool on Saturday #FACup

— Mark Ross (@Mark11980) April 11, 2012"

A House Divided?

6 of 9

Perhaps you've met "fans" who claim to support both Everton and Liverpool. This cannot be.

"

The only suitable use for a half Liverpool half Everton scarf is to strangle the wearer.

Noticing a Pattern?

7 of 9

Twitter user @BrianDurand56 has discovered a pattern. Much like the 1970-71 FA Cup, Liverpool have played every round at home this season.

That year, the Reds beat Everton 2-1 in the semifinals. Then, they lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the Cup final.

"

It's 1971 all over. Every round at home. 4 lge games without a win, before winning final match before semi. SF? Everton 1-2 Liverpool

— Brian Durand (@BrianDurand56) April 10, 2012"

Landmark Goal?

8 of 9

This is a pretty cool stat. And Nikica Jelavic is a pretty good bet to be the scorer.

"

Everton's next derby goal will be their 250th against Liverpool in all competitions. Jelavic? #standtogether

— Daniel Alston (@efc_danalston) April 11, 2012"

Good Ol' Days?

9 of 9

I'm not sure how chummy the relationship between Liverpool and Everton has ever been. But it's a nice sentiment.

"

I actually miss the days when the relationship between Liverpool and Everton was friendlier. Any Reds or Blues feel the same way??
