Shabazz Muhammad: Why Picking Kentucky Is Best Choice for Recruit's Future

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

Shabazz Muhammad is finally set to pick a school on Wednesday night, and it would do him more harm than good in the future to pick any other program than Kentucky.

The 6’6”, 215-pound recruit from Las Vegas was widely regarded as the No. 1 player in high school basketball until Nerlens Noel reclassified from the class of 2013 down to the class of 2012 earlier this year.

Muhammad is still an absolute steal and John Calipari is doing his best to convince him that his Wildcats squad is the right place to be.

Shabazz would be wise to listen up to coach Cal, as he has made a lot of young men a lot of money and therefore set families up to be financially secure for the rest of their lives.

He’s got the natural talent and athleticism to jump right from high school to the pros, but the league no longer allows that to happen. This is precisely why Kentucky has become such a great place for players with that kind of upside to go for a single year.

Cal has produced 13 first-round picks since Marcus Camby in 1996. He has recently had two stars go No. 1 overall in Derrick Rose and John Wall.

The coach led the Wildcats to his first national title in 2012 with surefire No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis leading a great group of one-and-done players who will be first-rounders as well.

Muhammad will become a first-rounder and achieve great success in collegiate basketball if he opts to join UK and become a star.

There is no other college where that is guaranteed right now and it would be foolish of him eschew this great opportunity to be a financially successful star.
