FC Barcelona: Eric Abidal Undergoes Liver Transplant
Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal underwent his liver transplant Tuesday as Barcelona and its supporters paid tribute to their French defender at Camp Nou during the match against Getafe.
Barcelona was victorious in the bout, 4-0, and the fans stood and chanted the 32-year-old's name in the 22nd minute, which matches the jersey number Abidal wears for the club. More than 76,000 fans showed their gratitude, concern and faith in recovery for the defender as we all wish his recovery to normalcy is a good and quick one.
Abidal had liver surgery in March of 2011 to remove a tumor, and he even returned to the pitch in the final part of last season. Although he remained with Barca until a month or so ago, the doctors and caretakers of the club made a definitive decision that a liver transplant was needed.

Pep Guardiola dedicated the victory to Abidal and his cousin, Gerard, who donated his liver for the sake of family and health. It was a truly selfless act and an act of courage.
Even last month, Real Madrid, bitter rivals to Abidal and Barcelona, wore shirts wishing Abidal and Fabrice Muamba, who collapsed in an EPL match, speedy recoveries.
The message of wellness was heard not only at the Bernabeu, but globally.
Get well soon, Abidal.
