WWE News: Teddy Long Expected to Stick Around as on-Screen Character

Drake OzApr 9, 2012

At WrestleMania 28, Team Johnny defeated Team Teddy in the battle of the general managers.

As a result, John Laurinaitis was named the GM of both Raw and Smackdown while Teddy Long was written off of WWE TV.

Or so we thought.

As seen on last week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, Long has already been rehired by Laurinaitis to serve in an unspecified role. And guess what? Long’s role on TV is going to continue.

From PWInsider.com (via WrestleZone.com)

"

According to PWInsider.com, although his team lost the WrestleMania 28 tag team match, Teddy Long will remain on WWE TV as the lackey to new Raw and Smackdown GM John Laurinaitis.

"

Ugh. Really?

While I have nothing personal against Teddy Long, I, for one, was absolutely ecstatic when his team lost at WrestleMania because I viewed it as the end of the boring and monotonous Teddy TV character, which has undoubtedly run its course.

Yet that 'Mania match apparently meant little to nothing because Long is still serving as an on-screen character and will probably get even more TV time now than he has in the past.

Why not just take Long off of TV altogether and give his TV time to people who, you know, actually wrestle?

We’ve seen this “lackey” storyline before, such as when Shawn Michaels worked for JBL or when John Cena was a part of the Nexus, and it’s a bit too played out for my liking.

The story is almost always the same, and when it involves two guys who aren’t even wrestlers, it makes my interest level even lower than it would be if two wrestlers were involved.

I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t care less about Long’s college fund for his grandchildren. I just want to see the man off of WWE TV.

It’s time to move on and put the focus where it belongs: on the wrestlers.

Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
