Masters 2012 Payout: Breaking Down Winnings for Marquee Golfers
They came, they saw, and they won millions of dollars.
The 2012 Masters was a success for the millions of golf enthusiasts who were captivated until the very end of play on Sunday.
It was also a pretty good string of days for those that play this wonderful, albeit frustrating, game for the entirety of the year.
Let me brace you for some startling news—you may be annoyed by the following stats. In fact, you may need to play a round of 18 to get over the fact that these men get paid millions to do something you would do for free.
And in some cases, they don't exactly do it very well.

1. Bubba Watson
Masters Payout: $1,440,000
Let's be real. Watson was hardly thinking about this huge payout when he finally sunk the winner on 10, but he is sure grinning a little about it today.
Andrew Brandt of The National Football Post has an interesting tidbit about the winnings:
"Bubba Watson winners' share for Masters is $1.44 million, about the average NFL salary.
— Andrew Brandt (@adbrandt) April 9, 2012"
In four days of brilliant golf, Watson accumulated what most football players get after a year of grueling practice and hard-hitting games.
Masters Payout: $384,000
Lefty choked away a perfect chance to feature in a final walk up 18 with green jacket in hand. OK, so it wasn't as awful as all that.
Mickelson came back from a trying first day and made another classic push to the top. There is no reason to sulk after a great four days, especially when you take home six figures.
3. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy
Masters Payout: $32,000
Oh, boy.
Tiger Woods is getting all the heat for an epic implosion that saw one golf club suffer a quick kick in the shaft. However, another favorite was just as awful during the Masters.
It's time for McIlroy and Woods to share in the spoils of ineptitude. You two take your $32,000, and think long and hard about what you have done.
Somehow, I don't think this lesson will take.
