5 Reasons Why Ozzie Guillen Will Fail with the Miami Marlins in 2012
Ozzie Guillen and the Miami Marlins have not gotten off to the start they expected.
Miami is only 1-3 and their offense has looked weak already. After a busy offseason, the Marlins had high expectations for their new skipper.
To make matters worse, Ozzie has been his usual, outspoken self in the worst of ways. If his antics and the team's results continue, Ozzie and the Marlins will be a failure in 2012.
Drunken Ozzie
1 of 5Ozzie Guillen has quite the nightly routine on the road and it ends with one ultimate result: being drunk.
According to The Miami Herald, Guillen spends his nights on the road getting drunk before he calls it a night.
If the team wins or loses, Guillen's routine stays the same:
""I've got my routine. Game's over, stay in the lobby of the hotel, the hotel bar, get drunk and go to sleep.I get drunk because I'm happy because we won or get drunk because I'm very sad and disturbed because we lose. Same routine. [sic] for 25, 28 years. It hasn't changed. I don't like to go out."
"
Yes, this is a personal matter, but just ridiculous. It's bad enough that this is Guillen's routine, but worse that he would actually admit this to the media.
Fidel Castro
2 of 5Getting drunk on the road and telling the media was enough right?
Wrong.
Guillen is also apparently a fan of Cuban leader, Fidel Castro. According to Time Magazine, Guillen said this about the Cuban leader:
""I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that [expletive] is still here."
"
Luckily for Miami, Guillen went on to apologize for his idiotic comments.
After Miami's 8-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, CBS Miami reports Guillen saying this about his comments:
""I will apologize if I hurt somebody's feelings, or I hurt somebody's thought," Guillen told the writers. "I want them to know I'm against everything 100 percent — I repeat it again — the way this man (been) treating people for the last 60 years."
"
Hopefully, Guillen meant his apology, because this is just too much.
Too Many Personalities
3 of 5Let's be honest, Ozzie Guillen is a big enough personality himself to ruin a team.
Pairing up Guillen with all the personalities on the Marlins will be a disaster. The colorful new jerseys will be perfect for this colorful bunch.
In 2011, the Marlins already had one of the biggest personalities in baseball.
Twitter's finest Logan Morrison will be a very interesting fit for Guillen. Hopefully he doesn't demote him for his "performance" a.k.a. his tweets.
To go along with Morrison, the Marlins now have three new big personalities in Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Carlos Zambrano.
This team would be reality TV gold and will be a very entertaining bunch.
Too High of Expectations
4 of 5After a busy offseason snagging high profile free agents, the Miami Marlins have high expectations.
Unfortunately, these expectations are too high. Too many things can go wrong for what's expected.
Miami has many injury-prone players that could end their season in a blink of an eye. If Josh Johnson gets hurt, a solid pitching staff can turn into an average one.
The same goes with the offense and Jose Reyes.
With the new additions to the team and a flashy new ballpark, the Marlins have huge expectations.
Unfortunately, it will be nearly impossible to reach such lofty heights.
Tough NL East
5 of 5Ozzie Guillen and the Miami Marlins may be the sexy team of the NL East, but they still have a high mountain to climb in order to win the their division.
The NL East is a loaded division. There are potentially four teams, including the Miami Marlins, that can win their division.
Beating the Philadelphia Phillies will be the biggest obstacle of all.
Yes, the team is full of injuries, but Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels still own the hill in Philadelphia. Never doubt that trio as injuries will just make them work harder.
If Ozzie Guillen keeps up his antics, the Marlins will not be the team at the top of NL East at the end of the year.
