Ozzie Guillen Fidel Castro: Outrageous Comments Shouldn't Surprise Fans

Eric BallJun 4, 2018

The grass is green, the sky is blue and Ozzie Guillen is saying outlandish comments…what else is new?

The Miami Marlins manager is in hot water yet again after making the following outlandish remarks to Time Magazine:

"

I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that [expletive] is still here.

OMG, OMG, sound the alarms!

By no surprise, America was shocked that Ozzie would say something so outrageous. He was forced to issue an apology almost instantly on Saturday in a closed door meeting with the press before the Marlins 8-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds (via USA Today):

"

Whoever got hurt or misunderstood, I want to apologize for the things that hurt somebody's feelings. I want them to know I'm against everything 100 percent — I repeat it again — the way this man (been) treating people for the last 60 years.

"

Guillen loves to stir the pot and this is just the latest example. Back in the fall when he was first hired by the Marlins, he had to clarify comments he made about Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez after he realized Miami’s new stadium is located in Little Havana.

As the popular phrase goes, it’s just Ozzie being Ozzie.

He isn’t afraid to speak his mind and tell people what he really thinks. In 2012, that is incredibly rare. We live in a world where everyone has to be politically correct at all times or pay the price. What is that price? Being forced to publicly apologize and taking tons of heat from the Twitter universe.

While I don’t necessarily endorse Ozzie’s comments, I applaud him for speaking his mind. It’s refreshing to hear and I wish more people in the spotlight would follow his lead.

America is way too PC right now and a guy like Guillen shouldn’t be blasted for simply speaking his mind.
