WWE WrestleMania 29: Who Will Hold Each Title Heading into the Extravaganza?
WrestleMania XXVIII made headlines and broke records.
John Cena took on The Rock in a once-in-a-lifetime match up that will surely be talked about for years to come.
It is now in the past, time to look forward into the future. With the return of Brock Lesnar this past Monday on Raw, the WWE lived up to its moniker as truly anything can happen on any given day in this companyé
Next year's big extravaganza will take place in the New York/New Jersey area, more precisely East Rutherford, NJ and already there is talk of whom shall be facing whom that night. From Cena/Taker to Lesnar/Taker, it appears the corporate writers will have a field day with this one as it surely could surpass all others.
The championship landscape will change several times over the course of the next 12 months. When the clock finally strikes midnight on April 7, 2013, who will reign supreme as champions going into WrestleMania XXIX?
Here goes...
Alex Riley and Zack Ryder the Tag Team Champions
1 of 5Current champions as of April 4, 2012: Primo and Epico
Since the tag team division in WWE stands next to nothing, it is really going to take some heavy thinking to find a way out of this mess.
With the current champions speaking out loud about not being part of Mania this year, it is a great time for them to step up to the plate and win everyone over. They have great ring skills and the ultimate weapon: Rosa Mendes.
Why not try to pair up some other young, promising stars? Alex Riley and Zack Ryder fit that bill quite nicely. When looking at the slide picture, you can actually see some sort of similarity between those two and as of this moment, they are both fan favorites.
They could probably surprise a whole bunch of people. Unfortunately for them, WrestleMania XXIX and the subsequent Tag Team championship match will be against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus...finally united!
I would pay to see those two pair up.
Beth Phoenix Is Your Divas Champion
2 of 5Current champion today: Beth Phoenix
The Glamazon claims she will be champion forever. That's impossible but for the sake of the Divas division, here's hoping her first reign lasts a while longer.
Besides Natalya, there is no one on the current roster who should be allowed to defeat her right now BUT again, anything can happen in WWE right, so maybe it will be a high-profile character who shall defeat her. Someone like Madusa or Trish Stratus, who have a bone to pick with the Diva of Doom.
A guess would be that Beth wins and loses her title twice this year (to Natalya and someone else) but regains it just in time next winter for the ultimate showdown at WrestleMania 29: taking on Kharma.
Yes, it will be about time too. The outstanding athlete has yet to return due to her recent life crisis, but all wounds heal in time (that is the honest truth), and she will come face to face with the most dominant Diva of the decade.
It should make for an outstanding program, one the world has been waiting to see.
Chris Jericho the Record-Breaking Intercontinental Champion
3 of 5Current champion right now: Big Show
There is no slide for the United States championship because...it is going to be unified this year with the Intercontinental title. That's what I see in the crystal ball (powers do not fail me now).
It serves no purpose anymore, and if it weren't for Cody Rhodes, neither would the IC belt but WWE will never retire its own baby in favor of a WCW relic so somewhere down the road, maybe Night of Champions, Chris Jericho will make history one more time and claim another piece of gold for his collection.
Not only would he become the undisputed second-tier champion, but he would shatter his own record of nine title reigns up to now. The WWE Universe and Y2J must witness this in their lifetime. What a moment that would be.
Chris Jericho is humble and legendary enough to want to do this. When all this CM Punk stuff if out of the way, he will need a new direction and reclaiming this treasure should do the trick.
How good will the "classic white" Intercontinental championship look around the waist of this Icon.
The Undisputed WWE Champion Is Brock Lesnar
4 of 5Current WWE Champion is CM Punk
Current World Heavyweight Champion is Sheamus
It's official, after watching WrestleMania 28 it is clear that the World Heavyweight championship takes a back seat to even the Intercontinental title in WWE.
For so many years now I have been desiring the retirement of that mockery in favor of its true master, the WWE championship (which needs a face lift). The last Undisputed Champion is Brock Lesnar, coincidentally enough.
The titles were split up when he announced he would no longer defend on the blue brand. That was another time, another era where the roster had exploded due to WCW going under but now we are in 2012...there is no longer any use for the big gold belt, there can be only one.
Brock Lesnar will reign supreme during his stay with the company. Who he will defeat for the title could very well be CM Punk but it could also be John Cena. The titles will be unified BEFORE WrestleMania 29, say Survivor Series or Royal Rumble even but one thing is clear: the epic main event of April 7 will be bigger than life, and it should be for all the marbles.
Nothing is certain yet, but why not have a Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock match for the Undisputed WWE championship with the "Great One" being either the Rumble winner or the last World Heavyweight Champion. Now there's an interesting scenario.
Everything happens for a reason and now, here comes the pain!
Care to Argue?
5 of 5The last big show just finished, let's take a moment here to breath a little...are you kidding? There is no time to waste.
WrestleMania XXIX is coming, and when you are in your 30s, you understand really fast that those years just fly by so it is important to savor in the moments to come. There is a ton of speculation out there and most of it makes sense, but here I am asking you, the WWE Universe, whom YOU think will be holding on to the company's championships come 2013.
There is room for debate and no idea is crazy so hit me up with your thoughts. This should be most interesting.
