Masters Odds 2012: Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and More Bad Bets

Alex KayApr 5, 2012

The Masters are officially under way but it isn’t too late to get some final bets in on who will win the green jacket in 2012.

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson are the popular choices to win it and their odds reflect that. However, all three of these players are extremely skilled and have experience winning major championships.

Let’s take a look at some other players who are also strong favorites to win but simply won’t get it done.

Luke Donald: 11-1

Donald is tied with Mickelson with the third-shortest odds to win a green jacket—behind just Rory and Tiger.

However, Donald is the least proven of any of these men and has yet to win a major during his career.

It would be tough to back someone who simply hasn’t shown the ability to win at such a bad payout.

Lee Westwood: 18-1

Westwood has managed to avoid a major victory during his lengthy and celebrated professional career.

There is no reason to think the 38-year-old is miraculously going to win the 2012 Masters.

The Englishman will probably finish well, as he often has during the past three events—including a second and third place—but he won’t be able to secure a victory.

Justin Rose: 28-1

The South African/English golfer won the WGC-Cadillac Championship about a month ago and has momentum going into the Masters.

However, it’s not going to push this majorless golfer past the rest of the field and it is simply unwise to back him at 28-1.
