Chelsea vs Benfica: Blues Headed Towards a Beatdown from Barca

Richard LangfordApr 4, 2012

Chelsea needs to enjoy their Champions League quarterfinals triumph over Benfica because they are going to be rewarded for that with a trouncing at the hands of defending champion Barcelona.

The Blues advanced by taking down Benfica 2-1 in the second leg of their quarterfinals match. The score gave them a 3-1 edge in aggregate score.

It was a nice win and it has been a solid run for Chelsea in an otherwise unspectacular season. The Blues are not a lock to even qualify for the Champions League next year. They are currently fifth in the EPL table as they have suffered through an up-and-down season.

This nice win aside, they have not been playing great as of late. They are just 2-2-1 in their last five EPL matches. And next up for them is a Barcelona team that is playing as good as ever.

Barca advanced to the semis by eliminating the talented AC Milan squad. They had to win the second leg of the matchup to advance and they posted a convincing 3-1 win. And that win was not at all surprising given how well they have been playing.

Barca have won eight-straight La Liga matches by a combined score of 23-6.

When Barca is playing like this, there isn't a team on the planet that can beat them, and the overmatched Chelsea squad doesn't stand a chance.

Barca has too much firepower for Chelsea to slow them down. They are going to dominate possession, take way more shots, and that will lead to two convincing wins for Barca and a trip to the Champions League final.
