Italy's Giuseppe Rossi Returns to Training, Hopes to Be Fit by Summer for Euros

Christopher HallJun 7, 2018

Villareal and Italy forward Giuseppe Rossi has been sidelined for nearly six months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during an October match against Real Madrid.

On Tuesday, Rossi took the practice field with his Villareal teammates for the first time since the injury.

The Italian updated his Twitter account shortly after training to let everyone know the good news. (From @giusepperossi22):

Training this morning :) happy to be back

Those seven words are the best news Villareal fans have gotten since their striker went down. The season has gone downhill rapidly for the Yellow Submarine, who currently sit just four points above the relegation zone.

Unfortunately for those suffering supporters, Rossi is likely to be fit just in time to head to another club in the summer.

Last year, cash-strapped Villareal chose to keep Rossi and send Santi Cazorla to Malaga for around $26 million.

But with no end to their financial problems, the club is now testing the potential market for Rossi. He has been strongly linked with Inter, as well as several EPL destinations.

Italy supporters will be unconcerned with Villareal's troubles.

For their part, they're just hoping that Rossi can work his way back to full fitness ahead of this summer's Euros. In December, the player identified the tournament as his first priority:

"Obviously I hope to be fit. I'm working to be able to return to playing as soon as possible," he said. "I suffered a bad injury and my priority is to come back soon and be present at the European Championship in the summer."

Rossi made his Italy debut in October of 2008 and has since appeared more than 30 times for his country.

The Italians are drawn into Group C, along with Spain, Ireland and Croatia. They kick off their Euro 2012 effort against Spain on June 10.
