SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 149, Marquel Wade, Arkansas WR
Starting April 2, the SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players for 2012 in the SEC.
No. 149 - Marquel Wade, No. 1, WR/Return Specialist, Arkansas
2011 Stats: Eight catches, 62 yards, 14 kickoff returns for 358 yards and one touchdown, 14 punt returns for 99 yards.
Strengths
Wade is the do-everything type of receiver that can really excel in Bobby Petrino's offense. As a freshman, Wade established himself as a weapon on special teams. With three wide receivers out the door, Wade will see his playing time at wide receiver increase this season as a sophomore.
He doesn't have the size to be a No. 1 receiver in this league, but he can certainly act as the next version to recently-departed wide receiver Joe Adams.
Weaknesses
So far, he's really only known as a special teams player, so there is some doubt on whether or not he can play wide receiver at this level. At 5'11", 185 lbs., Wade is a bit on the short side, so durability is a question.
2012 Prediction
Wade will have a strong season. Cobi Hamilton is the unquestioned No. 1 receiver, but Wade will still get the ball in a variety of ways on offense and as a returner. His versatility makes him a valuable piece to the Arkansas puzzle. Wade should get 10 touches per game.
