World Football Gossip Roundup: Kenny Dalglish, Demba Ba, Marouane Chamakh

Michael CummingsApr 3, 2012

Managers hog the spotlight in today's gossip roundup, and it's the same names you'd usually suspect.

Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish is reportedly feeling the pressure after a string of poor results.

Roberto Mancini could leave Manchester City after the season.

Another Roberto, the Di Matteo variety at Chelsea, is pretty much just crossing his fingers.

And Roy Hodgson is apparently about to make some serious cash.

There's also the usual transfer gossip and off-the-field rumor-mongering today. So let's get right to it.

Tough Times for King Kenny

1 of 8

First up in the managerial inquisition is Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish, whose Reds have shown relegation form since the New Year.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool's owners will "demand answers" out of the manager as they conduct a "major strategic review."

The Express, meanwhile, says Dalglish will have to submit a written report explaining Liverpool's failures.

Mancini in Trouble?

2 of 8

Next we have Roberto Mancini, whose job, believe it or not, could be in jeopardy.

That's according to The Independent, which says Manchester City's higher-ups are unhappy with recent results. Mancini has 12 months left on a contract that pays him £3.5 million per year.

The Telegraph reports a similar story.

Di Matteo in Dark?

3 of 8

Next up is Roberto Di Matteo, the interim manager at Chelsea.

According to the Daily Express, Di Matteo has no idea whether he'll be retained as full-time manager.

As an outsider, my thought would be that Roman Abramovich is looking for a big name. But maybe that's just me.

Hodgson in Line for Payday?

4 of 8

Our managerial gossip concludes with West Brom's Roy Hodgson, whose salary could soon be £3 million per year.

That's what the Daily Mail is saying, at least. The base salary would be £2.5 million per year with a £500,000 incentive for keeping West Brom in the Premiership.

"

It is a huge reward for Hodgson and is way above the £1.5m-a-year deals that most managers operating on mid-table budgets are offered.

The former Liverpool chief has so far delayed talks on an extension and is waiting for the FA to make a move on the next England manager.

If Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp turns down the FA's offer, Hodgson is among a number of names next on the list.

"

Not that you asked me, but I think both ideas—Hodgson for England and £3 million a year for Hodgson—are a bit out there.

PSG After Demba Ba?

5 of 8

In transfer gossip today, Newcastle United striker Demba Ba is reportedly wanted by big-spending French club PSG.

From talkSport:

"

Newcastle could suffer the loss of Demba Ba in the summer if Paris Saint-Germain can convince the Senegal international to change clubs again.

The former West Ham man has been the subject of transfer speculation ever since he joined in the summer and started scoring goals for Alan Pardew's men.

PSG have become a major force in the European transfer market since they were bought by the Qatar Investment Authority and they have earmarked Ba as the man to take them to the Ligue 1 title and lead their ambitious bid for Champions League glory.

"

PSG would reportedly offer £7 million.

Aly Cissokho to Manchester United?

6 of 8

Also from talkSport, Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho is reportedly interested in Manchester United.

"

Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for another left-back to provide Patrice Evra with competition and the United boss is understood to have enquired about signing Cissokho this summer.

Ferguson wants the France international on an initial loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer, and a move to Old Trafford would delight Cissokho, according to his agent Ali Barat.

"

Newcastle reportedly had a £7 million offer turned down last summer. AC Milan and Juventus have also shown interest.

Carroll Running out of Chances?

7 of 8

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll hit a low point over the weekend in the Reds' 2-0 loss at Newcastle.

The £35 million man again failed to score—but he was booked for simulation.

Now, according to Mirror Football, Carroll is being told he's running out of chances.

"

Andy Carroll will be warned he is running out of chances at Liverpool.

But the striker, who also threw his shirt down after being substituted during the 2-0 defeat at his former club Newcastle on Sunday, has escaped a club fine for his F-word rant at boss Kenny Dalglish.

"

Well, that's a plus.

Chamakh Caught Smoking?

8 of 8

Finally, today's gossip roundup ends with an answer.

An answer to the question that's plagued Arsenal fans for years.

So, what exactly does Marouane Chamakh do?

According to the Daily Mail, Chamakh smokes shisha.

That explains a lot, really.
