Wrestlemania 28 Review: Power Ranking Biggest Failures from WWE's Showcase Night

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

WrestleMania 28 had some horrible failures. Moments that just fell flat and took the wind out of the sails of the event.

These moments did not dominate the action. They were just easily-avoidable warts.

In all, this was an solid effort for WWE. Hell in a Cell and The Rock vs. John Cena were two matches that will go down in WrestleMania history.

However, this event would have been spectacular if it wasn't for the following failures.

No. 3: Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix and Eve

I don't understand the point of these types of matches. I guess it is to give some crossover appeal, but what does it say when a celebrity like Menounos pins the Divas Champion, Phoenix.

It doesn't build up a lot of hype for Phoenix, and it's not like Menounos is going to be spending a lot of time in the ring.

This was just a tired waste of time, and the ending was a letdown that was too contrived for even the WWE.

No. 2: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus

The event got off to a big start with a battle for the World Heavyweight Championship. Typically, you'd expect this match to go for 15 or 20 minutes. It went for 18...seconds.

Personally, I got a kick out of the surprise of seeing this match end so quick. It added a bit of the unexpected. However, a lot of fans were looking forward to this match, and it could have gotten things off to a high-flying and active start.

It did not. It was over almost before it began, and it instantly put the fans in a sour mood that carried over for several matches.

No. 1: The Lack of Lesnar

The biggest failure was not something that happened, but the thing that didn't happen. There were all kinds of rumors floating around regarding Lesnar's return to the WWE leading up to this match.

He was spotted around Miami, and the opportunity was there for him to make an appearance at WrestleMania.

It didn't need to be a big or prolonged entrance, just something to announce his return and set up a storyline. This would have built up a ton of hype going forward.

There is a good chance that Lesnar will make an appearance on Monday's Raw, but they could have made the most of this larger-than-life figure appear on the biggest stage.
