Goodell Speaks on Saints, Bounty Punishments at NFL Store Opening

Roger Goodell was the first soul to purchase new merchandise from the NFL's brand new apparel store in New York City, which opened to the public earlier today. 

And for the record, he did not receive a discount. 

Goodell was on hand for the launch of the NFL Shop at Draft located at 1095 Avenue of the Americas at 41st and 42nd Streets in New York City. Joining in the festivities were Jets owner Woody Johnson, Jets tight end Dustin Keller, Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw, and former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens. 

While Johnson and the players spent the majority of their time meeting and greeting with fans, Commissioner Goodell patiently answered a bombardment of questions from the media, with the Saints and Bountygate foremost on everyone's minds. 

After revealing plans to meet with the NFLPA this afternoon, Goodell said:

"

I think we all need to move forward. I think it's important for all of us to be open about what we've been able to find. We've released it publicly. We've given the NFLPA two of our confidential reports, which we've shared with our clubs—they've gotten the same report. And we'll have the meeting today, hopefully they'll get some more information, we'll get a recommendation from them.

"

Meanwhile, Goodell was asked about the "Free Sean Payton" rally held in New Orleans recently and about a supposed growing animosity for the Commissioner from Saints fans:

"

We have 32 clubs. We have rules in the league. And when rules are violated for three consecutive years and they deny it, there are gonna be consequences. That's the way it works. We have fans in 31 other markets that want to make sure the game is played the right way. I know the fans in New Orleans get frustrated by what happened, and I understand that, but they also want the game played the right way, and we're going to ensure that.

"
