Blackburn vs. Manchester United: 7 Red Devils Who Will Shine in Tonight's Match

Karla Villegas GamaApr 2, 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson will need Wayne Rooney, Antonio Valencia and David de Gea to be at its best if Manchester United wants to have a chance at tonight’s match against Blackburn Rovers.

A victory will give the Red Devils a five-point advantage over Manchester City, who recently tied with Sunderland.

United hasn't lost a meeting since January 4, against Newcastle, including three away games.

Let's see which players will make a difference on the pitch and help Manchester United win its seventh consecutive game.

Antonio Valencia

1 of 7

Antonio Valencia has taken advantage of his physical attributes to become one of the most productive wingers of the Premier League.

The Ecuadorian sits second in the assists department, with 11, just one back from Manchester City's David Silva.

Valencia has only appeared in 19 league games due to an injury, but has managed to score three times.

As usual, Antonio is set be the cornerstone and commander of United's right sideline, from where he creates plays and unbalances the rivals.

David De Gea

2 of 7

David de Gea is getting better by the minute.

The Spanish goalkeeper has gained confidence throughout the season and in the last matches has been a key factor.

Against Norwich, the 21-year-old saved United from losing the match; same thing when the Red Devils defeated Fulham.

David has improved his aerial game, and has also recorded 175 saves, which means 5.6 saves per match. He has caught 61 percent of those balls.

Blackburn will rely on Yakubu Aiyegbeni to score and give them the win, the same way he did in December. De Gea will try to stop him this time.

Javier Hernández

3 of 7

Despite not being a starter, Javier Hernández knows how to make a difference when Sir Alex Ferguson gives him a shot.

So far, "Chicharito" has played 24 Premier League games—nine of them as substitute—and scored 10 times.

Javier's ability to move quickly inside the box, along with his speed and unique definition, makes him a lethal striker.

Against Blackburn, the Mexican has yet to score, which can't happen today.

Jonny Evans

4 of 7

Jonny Evans has adjusted well to his role as center-back, and has quickly become an essential player for Manchester United.

Evans knows how to handle pressure and distribute the ball. His strength and quick thinking have set him as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s favorite footballers.

Tonight he will try and stop Blackburn's offense by teaming up with Rio Ferdinand.

His hard work has paid off, as Evans was named United's Player of the Month by the club’s fans.

Michael Carrick

5 of 7

Michael Carrick has made quite an impression this season.

After 22 appearances he records two goals and two assists, but moreover, he’s excelled in distributing the ball.

Carrick's touch and intelligence have given the team more depth and variety. The 30-year-old retains the ball in-style and knows when to pass it.

Against Blackburn, Michael is going to be a key player since the Rovers will try to take over the midfield and push United toward making mistakes, so ball possession will be a priority.

Phil Jones

6 of 7

Phil Jones missed the meeting against Fulham due to a cold, but today will be back to take over Manchester United's defense.

Jones has proven to be reliable despite his young age. He is a very fast player who knows how to join the offense and unbalance the rival midfield.

His fine ball-control and assertive touch sets him as one of Sir Alex Ferguson's most valuable men.

Tonight he must be very focused because the Rovers are close to the relegation zone, and will likely be fighting with all that they have.

Wayne Rooney

7 of 7

Wayne Rooney has led the team to the first spot of the Premier League. He records 21 goals in 26 appearances, which makes him the club’s top scorer.

Rooney missed December's match against the Rovers, who defeated United in Old Trafford, its second home defeat.

Wayne is set to play tonight and will seek to score for the fifth time against Blackburn. He did so in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

The striker is going through one of his best seasons so far. Beside his goals, Rooney will continue to help with assists and crosses, as he registers seven and 16, respectively.
