WWE WrestleMania 28 Results: What We Learned from Big Show's Win

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

On Sunday night at WrestleMania, we got to witness Big Show accomplish two personal goals: win the Intercontinental Championship from Cody Rhodes and break his trend of a WrestleMania losing record.

The match itself was decent, and both men looked good throughout. It was the finish which has me scratching my head a bit.

After Cody hit a first Disaster Kick, he tried to go for a second but was ripped from the air by a 500-pound spear from Big Show.

Show's arm seemed to catch in the wrong spot, and Rhodes fell to the ground and instantly grabbed his groin in a sign of pain. While this could have simply been him selling the move, I think he may have pulled something.

While Show was getting back to his feet, the cameras briefly showed Cody give a signal to the ref which seemed to indicate that he needed the match to end.

Show winning the IC title helps prove that WWE is using the title to put on superstars who are actually good instead of having it just bounce from mid-carder to mid-carder like the US title seems to be doing.

The main thing we learned from this match was that WWE does not see Big Show as a main event commodity. If they did, then he would not be winning the IC title at WrestleMania, he would be winning the World Title.

Taking nothing away from the IC title, if you are a main event star then you better be in a main event match on the biggest night of the year.

While I see Show as a legend who has become the best big man in the history of the business, I also see him as someone who will not be the sole reason people will buy tickets to a pay-per-view.

If history has taught us anything, it's that a carbon copy is looked at as inferior, and many people see Show as a carbon copy of Andre The Giant.

While the two have nothing in common other than their physical condition and love of wrestling, people still insist on lumping them together or comparing them.

Big Show has carved his own path in this business, but many fans will never see it that way, and that is unfortunate for Show.

I like what he brings to the table in WWE, and I hope he is back on top with the World title someday, but for now I am happy he broke his pattern of WrestleMania losses and we finally have an IC Champion who can intimidate any challengers.

It will be interesting to see if Cody Rhodes moves right into a main event feud after this or if he will remain a mid-card star for a bit longer.

I see Rhodes as a future star of the company, but for now I am happy seeing his rise to stardom unfold as he has taken the path of someone who has actually earned what he has and did not get it by living off his last name.

Rhodes is genuinely skilled, and he could be bigger than anyone thinks if the stars line up right for him. He can only keep getting better as long as he stays healthy and uninjured.

What did you think of Big Show's win over Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 28?
