Wrestlemania 28 Highlights: Maria Menounos Beats Beth Phoenix Despite Bad Ribs

Josh MartinJun 4, 2018

Not even a pair of broken ribs could stop Maria Menounos from once again sending archrival Beth Phoenix back into the ashes, this time on the WWE's biggest stage at WrestleMania XXVIII in Miami.

The Greek goddess and co-host of Extra returned to the ring with Kelly Kelly by her side against Phoenix and Eve Torres, marking the third time Menounos and Phoenix had stepped between the ropes at the same time.

The slim and slender Menounos appeared to be no match for the bigger, burlier Beth, who was quick to target Maria's mitigated midriff to leave her writhing in pain.

But of course, the match wouldn't end without Kelly and Torres each factoring into the equation. Kelly was particularly important to the proceedings, as she rescued Menounos from certain defeat more than once before putting her wounded partner in position to finish off Phoenix and maintain her perfect record in Divas tag team tilts.

At one point, in fact, Menounos was forced to crawl back into her corner to tag Kelly in while Phoenix and Torres recovered on their end. Luckily for Maria (and her legions of crossover fans), she managed to reach Kelly just in time, before Phoenix could put her out of her misery.

As much credit as Menounos deserves for persevering through pain, it's Kelly Kelly who earned distinction as the "Diva of the Match." She provided the muscle and the timely moves to rescue Menounos from certain doom.

For that, Menounos should be grateful, especially as she returns to her day job with her wrestling reputation, though damaged like her ribs, still largely intact.
